According to the “Electric Power Monthly” report, over 25% of the electricity produced by solar power sources from January-April 2022. Renewable energy generated an all-time high of 29.3 percent in April alone. Additionally, The data also shows that in the first three months of this year, residential solar increased by 28.93%. And wind jumped by 24.25%. Together, solar and wind power increased by 25.46 percent. And made up more than one-sixth (16.67%) of the country’s electrical generation (wind: 12.24 percent, solar: 4.43 percent).
Renewable solar power sources beat coal and nuclear power. Or the first third of the year by 26.13 percent and 37.80 percent, respectively. In actuality, nuclear power decreased by 1.80 percent, while coal power decreased by 3.94 percent as compared to the same period in 2021.
Moreover, during the first four months of 2022, an increase of 9.9 percent gain in hydropower as well. But compared to hydropower, wind alone produced 70.89% more electricity. The mix of renewable energy sources increased by 18.49 percent and supplied 25.52 percent of the country’s electricity.
Solar power and wind energy are still growing. Despite challenges like the COVID pandemic, issues with grid access, and hiccups in global supply chains.
Furthermore, the stupidity of trying to rehabilitate the recently retired Palisades reactor in Michigan and the soon-to-retire Diablo Canyon nuclear facility in California. Instead of concentrating on accelerating renewable solar power’s growth by overtaking nuclear power by ever-greater margins. Overall, the renewable solar power is now generating more energy than other traditional resources. and it is expected to grow in future.
